How Third Place handles your information.
Third Place is a location-based app for meeting people in real life. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the control you have over it. We keep it short and plain on purpose.
What we collect
- Account details — the email address and password you sign up with, so we can keep your account secure.
- Profile information — the name, username, avatar, and badges you choose to add to your map.
- Location & snaps — when you post that you're "out", we collect your approximate location and chosen vibe so nearby people can find you. This is only shared while a snap is live (about 3 hours) and only when you choose to post it.
- Connections — the map links you create with people you meet via the QR handshake.
- Messages — notes you send to other members through the app.
Why we collect it
- To show you people nearby who are open to meeting.
- To build and maintain your personal map of connections.
- To keep your account secure and the community safe.
How we use your location
Your location is never tracked in the background. It is only used when you actively post a snap, and it stops being shared when the snap expires or when you remove it. You can use the rest of the app without posting your location.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal data to anyone.
- We don't show third-party advertising.
- We don't share your information beyond what's needed to run the features above.
Your choices & control
- You can stop sharing your location at any time by not posting a snap or letting an active snap expire.
- You can log out at any time from your profile.
- You can request that your account and associated data be deleted by contacting us.
Data retention
We keep your account and profile information for as long as your account is active. Live location snaps are short-lived and removed automatically when they expire. When you delete your account, your personal data is removed.
